On Saturday 9th August - Sue, Catherine and Janice took 10 of our girls to join with 3rd Ryde Company for a week camp on the Island of Jersey. We left at 5.45am and went to collect the IOW girls from the car ferry for our trip to Southampton Airport. We arrived in Jersey at 9.00am and made our way to Jersey G.B. Headquarters, our home for the following week. While Sue and Betty went shopping for our provisions, the rest of us settled in. After a late lunch, we walked down to the beach to do some rock pooling.
After Sunday morning service and lunch, we went inti St. Helier. Unfortunately, due to strong winds we were unable to go to Elizabeth Castle, so instead we held a sand sculpture competition and then went on the Jersey Eye. Monday saw us at Gerald Durrell Conservation Park, where we saw gorillas, orangutans and many others hanging around in trees !
Tuesday was games day, which was interupted by a huge downpoar and most got a thorough soaking. On Wednesday we went swimming at the Aqua Park in St. Helier and then shopping. Thursday was Battle of Flowers day. We had front row seats and made ourselves known to the locals. It was the hottest day of the week, and the floats made of flowers were amazing.
On Friday we went to Lion Park, the home of Jersey Goldsmiths. While here the girls (and one of our officers - guess who) went panning for gold and precious jewels.
We all had a great time and came away with a lot of good memories.
