We have survived our first camp under canvas. We the officers of our BB Company took all six of our company boys to the New Forest for a week of fun and games, this is exactly what we had.
On Saturday 26th July we all set off for the New Forest with a little anticipation and a lot of excitement. The journey went well, no one was ill and we arrived in good weather. We all pitched in to setting up the camp by putting up nine tents. With this done, we were then allocated the tents that we would sleep in for the week. As the names were read out, both the boys from our company and the Waterlooville boys were a little anxious but to our credit this did not last long, as all the boys joined in well together.
Our first trip was to church on Sunday. In our best uniform we walked to Brockenhurst Methodist. This was followed after lunch by another little walk to a ford, where we had a splashing time ! On Monday came our first big test - a ten mile walk in the forest. This went well, with the boys being able to put into practice the map reading skills they had learnt. (Unfortunately, not by Captain, who went on a slight detour!!!)
With swimming, archery, an on-site climbing tower, plus all the games of football, rounders and cricket, we were kept busy. (We did sleep well)
The food was of a high quality and for this I would like to thank Mrs Giles.
With a trip to Moors Valley and a splash pool to finish the week, I can say we all had a good week. A big thank you goes to Mr Giles - captain of 1st Waterlooville - for all the hard work that must have gone into the week. Also a big thank you to all our Company boys, who did our company proud.
